The owner of the Farm Chan, Min-Hsia is the second-generation daughter-in-law. Married in 2003, she helps manage the Farm with her husband Lin, Liang-Ching. She was keen enough to observe that “When the mother takes her children to pick strawberries, the father often feels impatient and starts to yell, ‘Are you ready yet? It’s time to go. Those waiting outside feel impatient while those being rushed are anxious. A wonderful trip is then ruined.”
Later, they prepared chairs and beverages. After the tourists finish picking strawberries, it is time for lunch. “We acquired licenses for Chinese and western cuisine, coffee, cocktailing and bakery, etc.” Before marrying a farmer, Chan, Min-Hsia worked as a designer in an advertising company. She cares a lot about garnishing, food presentation, and table and landscape decorations. However, because of a limited budget, they make many of the decorations on their own, and they are rather unique. Many tourists often ask about where to buy these ornaments. “Sorry, but they are made by us and are not for sale,” Lin, Liang-Ching said, laughingly.
With the beautiful garden dining area and dishes, the problem of excessive production that had troubled them for many years has finally been solved. “My mother was honored as one of the ten female Shen-nong Award winners in the 1970s. She is really good at growing fruit and vegetables.” Her son and daughter-in-law helped transform the Farm. The two generations have more chances to talk and communicate with each other, a starting point for mutual learning. The mother-in-law helps with the farming; the father-in-law helps pave the floor; the elder brother makes a green wall with the steel used to plant pitayas.
